New Honda Accord presented for Japan – Autoreview

Almost a year after the official presentation, the eleventh generation of the once very popular Honda Accord model has reached… the Japanese market! It has long been no secret that this sedan is aimed primarily at the American market, but it is much more interesting that the production of Accords in its native Japan was curtailed at the beginning of 2020, when the ninth generation was retiring. The “tenth” Accord was never Japanese: the cars were produced in the USA, China, Thailand and Malaysia. Now the eleventh generation Accord has followed in the same footsteps: production has already started in America and China, and next in line is a plant in Thailand, from where cars will be supplied to the Japanese market.

From the outside, this Accord is no different from its relatives in other countries. And in the cabin, apart from the different location of the steering wheel, the sedan for Japan repeats its Chinese counterpart. The main feature is the climate system control unit: instead of twelve buttons and three handles, like cars for America, the user has only four keys and one “puck” (with a built-in display), the functionality of which can be configured at his discretion. In addition, the classic transmission selector was replaced with a push-button remote control.

It is known that in Japan the Accord will only be a hybrid. The e:HEV powertrain includes a two-liter naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle engine, an electric traction motor, a single-stage gearbox and a generator. Specifications have not yet been revealed, but in the US the Accord Hybrid produces 207 hp at peak. The chassis is a completely standard design for this class with McPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear.

In the Japanese market, sales of the new Accords will begin in the spring of 2024, and two trim levels will be offered (Sports and Touring). The debut in Thailand should take place before the end of this fall, and subsequently Honda may begin delivering these cars to other countries with left-hand traffic (Australia, New Zealand, etc.). Prices will be announced later. For reference: in America, prices for a locally assembled hybrid Accord start at $32,195.
