The Nuevas Ideas party led the victory in the municipal elections, securing the majority of mayoralties nationwide, according to preliminary data from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE). President Nayib Bukele highlighted the notable number of 43 of 44 mayoralties obtained by parties allied to the government.
According to the preliminary scrutiny of the TSE, Nuevas Ideas secured 28 mayoralties, followed by GANA with six, PDC with four, Fuerza Solidaria with one and PCN with three for the period 2024-2027. In contrast, ARENA only won one mayoralty, while the FMLN and ARENA won zero mayoralties and deputies.
The vote to punish the Cyan party was due to the terrible management of some municipal leaders in the period 2021-2024, considered the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele. The president added that the will of the people is respected.
«It is clear that in many municipalities people have voted for mayors who are not from Nuevas Ideas; “This is the vote of punishment for the terrible efforts that some of them have made,” the president published on his social networks.
