The New Jersey Devils struggled in their first-round series of NHL playoffs. The Devils also lost their second game to arch-rivals New York Rangers 5-1 at home. Patrick Kane, who was brought in from Chicago at the end of February, recorded a goal and two assists for the Rangers. Chris Kreider contributed two goals. Game three of the “best of seven” series takes place on Saturday (2:00 a.m. CEST on Sunday night) at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche were all tied at 1-1 in their home win streaks. Toronto defeated 2020 and 2021 champions Tampa Bay Lightning 7-2, thanks in no small part to a hat-trick from captain John Tavares. In the Western Conference, top-seeded Golden Knights edged out underdogs Winnipeg Jets 5-2, while defending champions Colorado defeated play-off debutants Seattle Kraken 3-2.
