UpdateA judicial investigation has been opened into a series of rapes, attempted rapes and sexual assaults which could be attributable to Dino Scala (61), already convicted of 54 similar acts, we learned on Tuesday from the Valenciennes prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the JDD.

The prosecution claims to have been seized by the public prosecutor at the Douai Court of Appeal, on March 7, following the trial of Dino Scala, nicknamed the “rapist of the Sambre”, “of a series of acts of rape and attempted rape and sexual assault committed between 1988 and 2009″. Also, the prosecution seized the investigating judge for the purpose of opening a judicial investigation on March 15.

14 other victims?

These facts concern, “13 victims who appeared in the context of the initial investigation without however having been referred to in the introductory indictment or by additional indictments”, detailed to AFP the prosecution of Valenciennes. They also concern a fourteenth victim, “integrated in the context of the judicial investigation but who no longer appeared at the stage of the referral to the Assize Court and who contacted the Lille judicial police to renew his complaint”.

Already sentenced to 20 years

On July 1, 2022, after three weeks of hearings, the North Assize Court found Dino Scala guilty of 54 of the 56 acts of rape, sexual assault (or attempts) for which he was tried. He was sentenced on July 1, 2022 to the maximum penalty: 20 years’ imprisonment, with a two-thirds security period. He appealed his conviction.
