SHAWINIGAN. The new Médi-6 nursing clinic will soon open its doors at 1265, rue Trudel in Shawinigan. A team entirely made up of nurses will welcome patients from November 27. The Medi-6 Clinic aims to be a quick and inexpensive alternative for minor cases that do not require emergency care.
A full range of services will be offered by the clinic’s nurses: blood tests, dressings, vaccinations, injections, ear washing, monitoring of chronic illnesses, etc. In accordance with current regulations and professional skills, nurses will have the ability to carry out clinical assessments, including for conditions such as influenza, and to prescribe certain antibiotics and contraceptives as part of their practice, in accordance with the guidelines from the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ).
The arrival of the Médi-6 Clinic in Shawinigan will help relieve emergency room congestion in the region’s hospitals. » It is a service that is open to everyone, whether people have a family doctor or not. We can help people who are not able to see their doctor during the day or those who simply do not have a family doctor. We always follow up with the doctor and we can also transfer cases to the emergency room, if necessary,” explains Mireille Kahunu, owner of Clinique Médi-6.
The Medi-6 Clinic is Ms. Kahunu’s initiative. She had a career as a nurse for many years. She practiced her profession, among other places, in Montreal and at the Center-de-la-Mauricie Hospital in Shawinigan-Sud for nearly 15 years. Recently retired, she devotes herself to this new project. » I have been providing home nursing care since 2020 and I can see that the needs are great. By surrounding myself with a team, we will be able to help more people, more quickly. I will continue home care and my nursing colleagues at the clinic will welcome patients who are able to travel,” says Ms. Kahunu.
Open day
To discover the clinic and its nurses, an open day will be held on Saturday, November 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. People will be invited to visit the premises and get to know Ms. Kahunu and her team. The hosts will be happy to answer any questions.
The Medi-6 Clinic will be open Monday to Friday starting November 27.
