The newly opened Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) campus on Coney Island marks a major milestone for youth development, offering more than 70 high-adventure elements and a dedicated 1.2-hectare sea operations center designed to weather-proof rugged outdoor education. Officially opened by Prime Minister, the facility expands Singapore’s experiential learning landscape through progressive, cluster-based challenges and cutting-edge sustainability features.
A Weather-Proof Playground for High-Adventure Leadership
This layout allows instructors to conduct robust OBS programmes regardless of tropical downpours or blistering heat.
Students can test their mettle across more than 70 high-adventure elements alongside over 30 low-adventure elements distributed across five distinct clusters. OBS and NYC designed these obstacles to be progressive. Participants start with manageable physical hurdles and gradually work toward more complex challenges, cultivating essential life skills like resilience, collaborative problem-solving, and mutual trust along the way.
Rethinking Team Dynamics and Expedition Logistics
Beyond the physical obstacles, the campus introduces a deliberate shift in group dynamics. Activities are structured for teams of up to four students working closely together, moving away from the more traditional pair-based format utilized in previous pair-based format.

Logistical connectivity remains one of the site’s strongest attributes. A 170-meter-long jetty anchors the 1.2-hectare sea operations facility, linking students directly to surrounding coastal waters. Meanwhile, seamless water routes to nearby Pulau Ubin open up rigorous kayaking and rowboat expeditions. This setup stretches the traditional classroom far beyond campus boundaries, immersing youths in unfamiliar, dynamic environments.
Sustainable Infrastructure Built for the Future
Environmental stewardship sits at the core of the Coney Island campus architecture. The site features super-low energy buildings engineered with integrated ventilation louvres and expansive rooftop solar panels to drive down overall power consumption.
Water management is handled through an interconnected network of rain gardens, vegetation swales, and a dedicated sedimentation basin. These natural landscape features collect and treat rainwater on-site, repurposing it for landscape irrigation and equipment washing.
