New rebate at the pump: the director of Total confides in the conditions necessary for the implementation of this rebate

A new discount at the pump could be put in place under certain conditions. The director of Total Patrick Pouyanné confides on the subject.

End of discounts in 2023

Inflation has really affected all aspects of people’s lives. Indeed, everyone has seen an increase in the prices of basic necessities. But that’s not all, because the price of housing, energy and fuel are also affected. Faced with this situation, the France manager of TotalEnergies made a move in 2022.

Thus, the company had joined forces with the government to offer motorists a discount at the pump of 0.20 euro then 0.10 euro per litre. However, these small rebates ended in January 2023. Those who use their car for work are therefore faced with rising fuel prices. What’s more this one has just reached 2 euros per liter. Nevertheless, all hope is not lost as a new discount at the pump could be put in place.

New discount at the pump: a possibility

While everyone has to deal with galloping inflation, TotalEnergies does not seem too affected. Indeed, the specialized press released the amount of their turnover. One thing is sure, the company is far from bankruptcy from the height of its 19.5 billion euros. However, the general manager Patrick Pouyanné wished to underline the good will of the company towards the motorists.

Thus, he confided in the possibility of a new discount at the pump. Nevertheless, the chairman and director of the TotalEnergies group wanted to play cards on the table with citizens. Also, he first specified that the partners of the company were not going to pay the broken pots vis-a-vis the rise in the price of the barrel. But it would still be possible to consider new targeted rebate actions at the pump. The condition would be that the liter of diesel exceeds the bar of 2 euros.

New discount at the pump: this policy will not always be necessary

These words from the director of TotalEnergies give hope to those who suffer from the current price of fuel. A new discount at the pump would not be refused, with the price of a barrel already at 90 dollars internationally. Nevertheless, the businessman wished to end on a positive note. Indeed, the policy of granting rebates to the population is far from becoming a norm.

He predicts that the price of oil will inevitably fall, which means that this type of action will no longer be necessary. So, as an argument, it highlights the electric mobility movement and the current energy transition. Also, the price of gasoline will come down with that of oil, something to reassure motorists.
