The French BasketBall Federation has broken a new record for the number of licensees, with more than 725,000 licenses as of April 16.

A few weeks before the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, French basketball has never been doing so well. Indeed, this Thursday, the French BasketBall Federation announced that it had broken its record number of licensees. As of April 16, the FFBB has a total of 725,000 licenses.

“A few days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, French basketball sets two new records; I would like to mention the number of active licensees within our 3,800 clubs (613,000 compared to 456,000 in 2010)”underlines Jean-Pierre Siutat, president of the French BasketBall Federation.

The dynamics of Paris 2024 to get closer to the million?

“We are aware of having refused nearly 180,000 young people over the last two seasons due to lack of slots and supervision; the challenge remains intact after the Games which will be an extraordinary accelerator for French sport. I thank all the management teams of our clubs who are the essential links in these great performances”continues the president of the FFBB.

With these figures, the French BasketBall Federation thus confirms its third place among the sports federations of France, behind football and tennis. Basketball is still the leading indoor team sport and the leading women’s team sport. The momentum of Paris 2024, where the French teams could shine in 5×5 and 3×3, could allow French basketball to get a little closer to the million licensees in the months to come.
