New rules for using a foreign passport have come into effect in Russia. Now, in the event of a ban on leaving the country, a citizen of the Russian Federation is obliged to hand over the document. The corresponding resolution dated November 22, 2023 was published on the official internet portals legal information.
“A citizen of the Russian Federation, whose right to leave the Russian Federation is temporarily limited, is obliged to appear within five working days from the date of notification of this temporary restriction and transfer his passport for storage until the expiration of the temporary restriction or the expiration of the passport,” the document says .
The Cabinet of Ministers believes that this measure will help “remove corruption risks and eliminate the possibility of abuse by officials.”
