New station for mobile collection of problematic substances in Vienna 14 | PID press

Vienna (OTS) On April 8, 2023, the 48ers are expanding their mobile collection of problematic substances in the 14th district. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. the “Prosa” stops at the 48er location in Zehetnergasse and is available to citizens for the disposal of their problematic materials and small electronic devices free of charge.

The problem materials include hazardous waste that regularly accumulates in households, such as batteries or old medicines. However, old materials that occur irregularly and in small quantities are also collected separately and sent for sensible recycling, e.g. B. CDs or cooking oil. In total, there are 25 different groups of substances that are collected separately.

The collection of so-called “problematic substances” is an important aspect of waste disposal, especially in urban areas. “It is important to us to provide the Viennese with a comprehensive network for the convenient collection of these substances,” emphasizes City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky. “Because it is only by properly disposing of this waste that serious environmental damage can be avoided and our climate and the health of humans and animals can be protected!”

“I am very happy about this new mobile collection point for problematic materials, because many Penzingers have wished for a waste disposal option there. Especially for people without a car, the new mobile collection point for problematic substances means a lot of relief,” says District Manager Michaela Schüchner.

Mobile hazardous waste collection points in Vienna

There are 92 mobile collection points throughout Vienna, which are approached once or twice a quarter and take over problematic household quantities free of charge. During the week they last for 2 hours each, on Saturday for 5 hours. As part of the mobile collection of problematic substances, 39 t of hazardous waste could be collected and professionally disposed of in 2022. These are divided into 20 t of small electrical appliances, 9.4 t of used cooking oil, 2.4 t of used batteries, paints and varnishes, cleaning agents, spray cans, X-rays, toner cartridges, lead-acid batteries, CDs, old medication, cannulas, solvents, various household chemicals, fire extinguishers, and much more. The almost 100 mobile “Prosas” are an addition to the stationary collection points for problematic substances and to the collection points at all Viennese waste disposal sites.
