Toyota has launched the ninth-generation Hilux in India with prices starting at Rs. 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated lifestyle pickup brings a more muscular design, a technology-focused cabin featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a new rear-wheel-drive automatic variant alongside its traditional four-wheel-drive diesel configurations.
The lifestyle pickup segment in India just gained a more accessible entry point as Toyota has launched the new Hilux at a starting price of Rs. 31.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Arriving roughly eight months after its global debut, the ninth-generation model replaces the eighth-generation truck that was introduced in March 2022. While retaining its familiar ladder-frame chassis and core off-road capabilities, the latest iteration introduces a sharper visual identity, significant interior technology upgrades, and an expanded lineup that includes rear-wheel-drive options for the first time in India. Pricing Structure and Variant Lineup
The pricing strategy for the refreshed lineup spans from the base entry point up to higher trims for the range-topping variants, according to launch details. The updated lineup now comprises GX 4×2 AT, GX 4×4 AT and VX 4×4 AT variants, giving buyers an additional entry point into Toyota’s premium pickup range.

Exterior Redesign and Cargo Practicality
Visually, the pickup draws inspiration from the brand’s Tacoma truck sold in global markets, adopting a much more upright and aggressive fascia. The front end features slim headlamps sitting at the base of the bonnet, connected by a black-finished blanked-out strip that proudly displays the bold TOYOTA wordmark instead of the traditional corporate logo used on older iterations. A squarer, lower-positioned grille and a heavily sculpted bumper complete the rugged stance. The rugged, ready-for-anything tall-boy stance is retained, now featuring a fascia with a sleeker headlamp design with integrated DRLs, a closed-off grille, and the ‘TOYOTA’ badge embossed in the centre instead of the Toyota logo seen on the previous model. The bold sculpted bumper with a slightly protruding silver accent adds to its rugged appearance. Fog lamps can be seen neatly placed on either side of the bumper. In profile, the dual-cab silhouette remains intact alongside squared-out wheel arches and prominent fender flares. Toyota has added deck steps on either side of the separate cargo bed—which retains its 500kg payload capacity—alongside a tailgate assist function featuring a lockable rear door to ease loading chores. As we saw with the previous Hilux, the latest iteration is also expected to get both the 17-inch and 18-inch wheel options, with radial tyres. Coming to the rear, the new Hilux gets vertically placed C-shaped LED tail lamps and a bold-black bumper with an integrated step for easy access to the cargo bed. The tailgate also carries the bold ‘TOYOTA’ moniker, and a reverse camera can be seen placed just below it.
Cabin Technology and Interior Layout
Inside, the cabin receives a comprehensive overhaul centered on modern connectivity and cleaner ergonomics. The 2026 Toyota Hilux should get a fully reworked interior. Toyota has gone for a cleaner dashboard layout and a new 12.3-inch infotainment display with eight speakers. Toyota says the controls for the key driving functions have been positioned separately from the infotainment and climate controls to improve ease of use, especially while driving off-road. The cabin now features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Toyota’s i-Connect connected car technology.
Engine Specifications and Off-Road Hardware
Under the skin, the Hilux retains its ladder-frame construction and four-wheel-drive hardware but now benefits from electric power steering, revised suspension tuning, and a 2.8-litre diesel powertrain. The refreshed Hilux continues to be powered by Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre diesel engine and retains its off-road credentials with the 4×4 variants. The Hilux is offered in Attitude Black, Emotional Red, Ash, Super White, Sulphur Metallic, and Platinum Pearl White Metallic exterior shades. Buyers can choose from six exterior paint options, including Sulphur Metallic, Platinum Pearl White Metallic, Attitude Black, Ash, Emotional Red and Super White. Toyota has also equipped the pickup with new diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, front fog lamps, a rear deck boarding step for easier access to the cargo bed, and a tailgate assist function with a lockable rear door.
