According to the website of the “AQ Air” company, which specializes in air pollution and quality monitoring technology, New York was the most polluted city in the world on Tuesday evening, while the smoke from the Canadian forest fires covered the city with fog.

The Swiss company added that air pollution levels in the city were considered in the “unhealthy” range, and were higher than those in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

And according to what was reported by the “Bloomberg” news agency, other cities in North America were affected by the smoke of unprecedented forest fires, including Detroit.

And New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement the day before yesterday that health advice on air quality had been issued for all five suburbs, and expectations indicated that weather conditions might improve, and then return to bad conditions at a later time.

And the American air quality index for New York reached 222 on its scale that extends from zero to 500 per hour yesterday morning, putting the air in the “very unhealthy” category.

Canada is on track to record its worst wildfire season ever if the burning rate continues at the same pace. Government officials say about 3.3 million hectares have burned so far. There are about 413 fires currently burning.
