If New York Rangers star defenseman Adam Fox is about to leave the infirmary, it appears that forward Kaapo Kakko will be staying there.

The Finnish winger suffered a lower body injury – most likely his left leg – when he took a nasty fall near the boards in the offensive zone on Monday.

The sequence occurred in the second period of the game against the Buffalo Sabres, and the team later clarified that he would not return to the game Monday night.

Kakko left the ice grimacing in pain, with the help of Rangers athletic therapists.

The former second overall pick is struggling despite the Blueshirts’ success; he only has 2 goals and an assist for three points in 20 games.

As for Fox, the defenseman participated in a full practice with his teammates on Monday, meaning he is eligible to return to play on Wednesday.

Fox had been out of competition since the beginning of the month due to a knee injury following a collision with Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho.

Fox has scored 3 goals and collected 8 assists in 10 games so far since the start of the season.

Aho sidelined with upper body injury

The New York Islanders have placed Sebastian Aho on injured reserve.

The decision is retroactive to November 24. Aho is bothered by an upper body injury.

Aho has 4 assists in 19 games since the start of the campaign.

Justin Bailey agrees with the Sharks

The San Jose Sharks agreed to a two-way, one-year contract with forward Justin Bailey on Monday.

Bailey, 28, spent the last three seasons in the Vancouver Canucks organization, where he played 19 games.

Selected in the second round of the 2013 draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Bailey has nine points in 82 NHL games since the start of his career.
