The governor of New York (United States), Kathy Hochul, declared a state of emergency for eleven counties on Thursday due to a “major storm” of snow that, according to forecasts, will last until next Sunday.
“What we are talking about is a big storm. This is considered an extreme weather event. That means it’s dangerous. It also means that it is potentially deadly,” said the official at a press conference.
According to authorities, among the counties that will be affected by snowfall are Buffalo, Watertown, Erie, Genesee and Niagara, where more than 12 centimeters of snow per hour is forecast to fall.
Weather services warn that winds could exceed 55 kilometers per hour, conducive to blizzard conditions, and will cause road closures, power outages and damage to homes.

For this reason, Hochul urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to regions affected by the snowstorm.
