The Assistant Undersecretary for Preventive Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Asiri, explained the recent increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection.
And he explained, during his meeting on the “Outly” program on the “Saudi Arabia” channel, that the general situation of the pandemic in the Kingdom is reassuring, especially that critical cases are still few even with the increase in cases of corona infection, referring this recent increase to the “Omicron” mutant that is fast moving between persons.
He added that the “Omicron” mutant, which has become the only strain in the Kingdom and almost all countries, is active in the upper respiratory system, but it may reach the lungs, but in smaller numbers of infected people compared to other mutant, and in the category of the unvaccinated. Larger, compared to other groups, noting that it turned into a “cold virus” rather than a virus that infects the lower parts of the respiratory system.
Asiri indicated that the calmness of matters at the level of the pandemic is associated with reaching a state of balance between the number of new infections and community immunity.
