A medical team at King Abdullah Medical City was able to save the life of a Nigerian pilgrim in his thirties who had severe heart palpitations and a sharp drop in blood pressure that led to cardiac arrest in a rare and serious case.
The Ministry of Health stated that the Saudi Red Crescent teams performed cardiac resuscitation through electric shocks, and by conducting tests, it was found that Al-Hajj suffers from atrial fibrillation in the heart with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which is one of the causes of cardiac arrest and death.
The ministry indicated that the medical team decided to urgently perform an electric catheter operation to cauterize the site of the syndrome, noting that the operation took 45 minutes under local anesthesia and was successful so that the pilgrim can complete his rituals and stand in Arafat in complete safety and in good health.
It is noteworthy that Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is defined as a condition of a rapid pulse resulting from an extra pathway through which the electrical signal can pass, and this may cause an abnormal heartbeat and the patient feels very palpitating, and the matter may progress to fainting.
