Today (Sunday), the CEO of the Food and Drug Authority, Hisham Al-Jadhai, reviewed the latest developments in vaccines and the authority’s activity to ensure the safety of food and drug.
And he stressed, during his meeting on the “In Public” program on the “Saudi” channel, that the vaccines that were used enjoy high levels of safety and efficacy, and that the levels of side effects were very low.
And regarding the extent of the need for a fourth dose of vaccines against corona, he explained that the Ministry of Health is following up the health situation to determine the extent of the need for a fourth dose of vaccines, stressing that there is no change in the formulations that were relied upon to manufacture the vaccines that were used at the beginning of giving vaccines in the pandemic.
Al-Jadhai indicated that giving the vaccine to groups less than 5 years old is determined by the health sector as needed, noting that there is still no new regarding the adoption of vaccines for these age groups.
When asked about the correctness of the calories placed on food products, he confirmed that there are specific requirements for placing information on food products with a clear font size, and that there are some ingredients that are required to be more clear.
He pointed out that work is underway on electronic applications that enable the consumer to identify food product information and link this to his nutritional information, explaining that calculating calories is an estimate, whether it is increased or decreased.
