Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson is in stable condition after being targeted by gunfire, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports.

He would have been hit by at least two bullets in the lower body shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday but his injuries would not put his life in danger. A firearm was found not far from the crime scene.

Police have identified two potential suspects. However, it cannot determine at this time whether it is an attempted carjacking or an attempted armed robbery.

Selected in the third round by Washington in 2022, Brian Robinson would begin his first season in the NFL.

His trainer Ron Rivera said in the evening that he visited him in the hospital.

“His morale is good, and he wanted me to thank everyone who sent him words of encouragement and prayed for him. He wants his teammates to know how much he appreciates their support. He wants to get back to the game as soon as possible to do what he does best,” Rivera said.

The sixth running back to be drafted at the last amateur auction, Robinson did well during the Commanders’ training camp. So much so that he seemed to have a secure position within the team’s attack. He did not take part in Saturday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

He has worn the colors of Alabama at the university level for the past five seasons. He led the Crimson Tide in rushing yards with 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns.
