NFL – Buffalo Blizzard: NFL game moved to Detroit

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Cologne (SID) – The US professional football league NFL is fleeing a snowstorm that was expected in Buffalo on Thursday evening (local time). Sunday night’s game between the Bills and the Cleveland Browns will be moved to Detroit. The league confirmed that. Most recently, a Buffalo Bills game was moved to the city 350 km to the west in 2014, also at that time due to heavy snowfall.

The decision was made “with public safety and caution in mind” and “in consultation with the Buffalo Bills and local and state authorities as the region prepares for the storm,” the NFL said.

Buffalo is more frequently affected by snowstorms due to the so-called “Lake Snow Effect”. The effect occurs when cold winter winds blow across large lakes warmed up in summer. Buffalo is located in upstate New York on the east side of Lake Erie on the border with Canada.
