NFL Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes practices self-criticism

Munich – Week 12 actually went well for the Kansas City Chiefs. A 26:10 win against the Los Angeles Rams allowed the franchise to claim first place in the AFC. And yet quarterback Patrick Mahomes lamented his team’s missed chances after the game.

The squad made it into the red zone six times, eliciting just one touchdown: a three-yard run by running back Isiah Pacheco in the third quarter.

In all other attempts, the Rams defense was safe, the Chiefs had to be content with a total of four field goals. Mahomes threw a nasty interception into the hands of safety Nick Scott. A throw that kept the Rams unnecessarily in the game in the last section.

Mahomes unsatisfied with his own performance

“Especially in the red zone we have to show a better performance,” said Mahomes after the game. “I have to play at a higher level and I have to avoid the one stupid play I make every game. If I can do that then everything will be fine.”

The playmaker intercepted while attempting to throw a pass to tight end Travis Kelce. “I threw the ball right into my opponent’s stomach. I have to make sure I don’t do that anymore, especially in the red zone. Because those are the throws that kill you in big games.”

And further: “We have to get a lot better offensively, especially me.”

Mahomes had 27 of 42 passes for 320 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had 36 rushing yards.
