It wasn’t just the fans who were in a good mood at the NFL thriller.

RTL commentators Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld and Björn Werner also enjoyed the atmosphere at Tottenham Stadium. They drink beer on live TV!

During the Baltimore Ravens’ 24:16 win against the Tennessee Titans, netman Mitja Lafere suddenly appears at the commentary desk during the broadcast and has two cool lights with him.

Werner asks: “Is that allowed?” Both are visibly surprised. “Alcohol-free, of course,” he winks at the commentators.

Schmidt-Sommerfeld and Werner take a sip, then the camera switches off.

In that sense: cheers!

On the sporting side: The Ravens have come up with a very special tactic for the London game. The reason for this lies in the past.

September 24, 2017: The Baltimore Ravens lose 7:44 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Coach John Harbaugh describes the loss as the “worst defeat in the team’s history” and says that he “doesn’t want to play in London again in the next few years”.

October 15, 2023: So the Baltimore Ravens are back in London. This time things are going much better.

Why? The Ravens pulled a very special move out of their bag of tricks. Instead of arriving in London on Friday like the Titans, Harbaugh’s team traveled to the English capital on Sunday.

The team should definitely get used to the time difference. Normally, NFL teams forego the change and stay in “their time zone.” Hence the short journey. Since the Ravens seemed so tired and sluggish last time, Harbaugh turned everything around.

With success!

The Ravens appear much more alert – even if they lack the last offensive punch. The game at Tottenham Stadium therefore gets off to a slow start. The Ravens kick three field goals, the Titans one. It wasn’t until 3:28 minutes before halftime that the 61,011 fans, most of them Ravens fans, saw the first touchdown.

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson finds receiver Zay Flowers. He simply shakes off defender Landry and runs into the end zone. Touchdown! The extra point is then blocked. The Ravens went into the break with a score of 18:3.

Afterwards, the Titans finally wake up. A 64-yard run by Derrick Henry shakes the stadium – and unravels the knot.

Although there is initially only a field goal, the defense then fishes an interception! Derrick Henry is back and scores the touchdown. 18:13.

But it is precisely in this momentum that Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill once again has a complete misfire. He throws an unnecessary interception. Baltimore has the ball again and scores a field goal. 9:13 p.m.

Tannehill has to go out injured. Replacement QB Malik Willis steps in, but can’t turn things around. The Ravens score another field goal, 24:13. The Titans counter with a field goal, but that’s not enough. The Ravens win 24:16.

After London, it’s Germany’s turn! On November 5th the Kansas City Chiefs will play against the Miami Dolphins.
