Nguyen Thi Oanh won the historic gold medal for Vietnamese athletics at the Asian tournament

Nguyen Thi Oanh excellently finished first in the final of the women’s 1500m run, thereby bringing home the historic gold medal for Vietnamese sports in the Asian arena.

On the evening of February 11, Nguyen Thi Oanh entered the 1500m event at the 2023 Asian Championships in Athletics Championships held in Kazakhstan. The Vietnamese female athlete started at the 8th track, competing with 7 other athletes from Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan.

Silver belongs to Yume Goto of Japan with a time of 4 minutes 19 seconds 29, Kazakhstan athlete Akbayyan Nurnamet won bronze with a time of 4 minutes 21 seconds 31.

Oanh’s gold medal is the second time that Vietnamese track and field has won gold at the Asian Indoor Championships in running events, after Truong Thanh Hang’s 800m gold medal in 2010.

Not long after that, Nguyen Thi Huyen excellently won silver in the women’s 400m event, with a record of 54 seconds 57, later Kazakhstan’s athlete.

The 2023 Asian Championships Indoor Athletics Championship brings together more than 500 athletes from 31 Asian countries, competing in 26 events. Vietnam team participated with 4 athletes: Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Luong Duc Phuoc and Nguyen Trung Cuong. This is the only international tournament before the players go to Cambodia to compete in the 32nd SEA Games.
