NHL: Jonathan Toews will not be traded, Columbus on standby for Gavrikov

Jonathan Toews would not be traded by the Chicago Blackhawks according to reports Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

The captain of the Hawks and the organization would have made a joint decision not to proceed with a transaction, while Toews would need more time to recover from the malaise which has kept him away from the game since January 28.

Toews confirmed during Sunday afternoon that he was still affected by symptoms of long-lasting COVID and chronic immune response syndrome which kept him sidelined throughout the 2020-21 season. .

“It’s a real challenge to play through these symptoms,” Toews said in a Blackhawks Twitter post. “Over the past few weeks, I’ve reached a point where I had no choice but to take a step back and focus on my health. »

“I am grateful for the patience and support of my teammates, coaching staff and the entire Blackhawks organization,” added Toews.

In 46 games this season, Toews has 14 goals and 14 assists.

Drafted 3rd overall in the 2006 Draft by the Blackhawks, Toews won three Stanley Cups in a Chicago uniform.

In 1,060 career games, Toews has 371 goals and 509 assists for a total of 800 points.

There are also several rumors linking teammate Patrick Kane to a few formations as the March 3 trade deadline approaches.

Columbus waiting for Gavrikov

According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Columbus Blue Jackets would wait until after a trade from another NHL roster before trading defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov.

Gavrikov has missed the last three meetings for the Jackets on the sidelines of the March 3 trade deadline. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen did not mention what was holding him back from trading the Russian defender.

Portzline said the deal involving Gavrikov would already be in place.
