NHL: Maple Leafs edge Kings 5-0 in Phillip Danault’s 500th game

Mitchell Marner earned a point in a 21st straight game, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs edge the Los Angeles Kings 5-0 on Thursday.

Ilya Samsonov turned aside 29 pucks for his first shutout as a member of the Leafs, and the seventh of his career.

It’s the team’s second straight shutout win, following Matt Murray’s 44-save performance on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.

The Leafs (17-5-6)who find themselves three points behind Boston – but with three more games on the clock – have not suffered a setback in regulation in their last 13 outings (10-0-3).

After a first period dominated by Toronto, the Kings were still in the game thanks to the 15 saves made by Jonathan Quick.

The Leafs lost forward Nick Robertson, who sustained a serious shoulder injury after being checked by Matt Roy in the first period.

“It won’t be short term in Robertson’s case,” Kefefe said after the game.

The Quebecer Phillip Danault was playing his 500th game on the Bettman circuit. Danault and the Kings (14-11-4) will also be visitors to the Bell Center this Saturday.
