According to François Gagnon, Patrice Bergeron will be back in the Boston Bruins uniform next season. The details of the agreement would be settled and everything should be formalized shortly.

The soon-to-be 37-year-old veteran was scheduled to become a free agent on Wednesday after completing the final year of an eight-year, $55 million contract with the Bruins. He will enter his 19th season with the team.

He also underwent surgery on his left elbow last June and his recovery period could stretch from 10 to 12 weeks.

The Bruins captain won the Frank-J.-Selke Trophy for the fifth time in her career in 2021-2022. He also had 65 points in 73 games.

Second round choice (45th) of the Bruins in 2003, the native of L’Ancienne-Lorette has played his entire career in Boston. In 1,216 games, he scored 400 goals and added 582 assists.
