NHL: Patrick Kane thought he gave a goal at the last second in overtime

Patrick Kane thought he had given the Chicago Blackhawks a dramatic victory in overtime, but they finally won 3-2 in a shootout against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

After watching his team tie the game late in the third period, Kane thought he made the difference in overtime. The striker, author of a hat trick against the Leafs in his last game, appeared alone in front of Laurent Brossoit with a few seconds to go.

Kane swung in with a hard slap shot to get ahead of the clock and the puck ended up in the net as the last second elapsed, kicking off the celebrations in Chicago. While he was celebrating a goal with his teammates at the time of the siren, the officials reviewed the play and ruled that time was up. Barrages were therefore necessary.

Kane again tried to outsmart Brossoit with a slap shot during the session, but was unsuccessful this time. Author of the equalizing net at the end of the third period, Tyler Johnson scored the goal that gave the victory to the Hawks.

For the Knights, Jack Eichel took charge of breaking the tie midway through the second period.

Eichel deftly lifted the puck over Tyler Johnson’s stick blade before going three-for-one past Petr Mrazek, to whom he served a major league shot, stick-side.

It was the 18e goal and 40e point of Eichel this season, he who disputed a 44e encounter.

Keegan Kolesar scored the Knights’ other goal early in the first period.

The Hawks’ response came from Cole Guttman nine minutes after Kolesar’s goal, as well as Johnson at 19:06 of the final period, when Chicago had a late power play.

Kane, one of the players to be watched closely as the trade deadline nears, collected a 28e assist on Johnson’s equalizer.

In his first NHL start in nearly a year, Laurent Brossoit made 37 saves.

Brossoit was on duty due to injuries to Logan Thompson and Adin Hill, the organization’s first two goaltenders.
