Chris Kreider broke the tie with his second goal of the game on a fumble by Louis Domingue and the New York Rangers forced a seventh game with a 5-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
As the game appeared to be headed for overtime, Kreider fired a long shot partially blocked by Domingue, the puck lobbed over the Quebec keeper and into the net to put the Rangers ahead 4 -3 with 1:28 to go.
Mika Zibanejad had two goals and two assists and Adam Fox had four assists. Andrew Copp completed the scoring in an empty net.
Jeff Carter, Bryan Rust and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins.
“Nobody thought it was going to be easy,” Penguins defenseman Kristopher Letang said. They have a very good team. They have several talented guys who can score. We have to band together, stay positive and get the job done. »
Without captain Sidney Crosby, injured in Game 5 by a blow to the head by Jacob Trouba, the Penguins scored twice in the first period to build a 2-0 lead.
Rangers came back with three unanswered goals in the second.
On the power play, Kreider’s first goal gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead at 1:48 into the second period. That was before Malkin’s reply, 2:48 later.
“I’m proud of our tenacity,” Kreider said. It doesn’t matter if we’re up or down, we try to stay true to our style of play.”

The tie continued until Kreider’s second goal late in the third.
Domingue made 33 saves, two more than Igor Shesterkin.
Game 7 of the series is Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
