Of the six drivers who embodied Ferrari’s Hypercar program in Endurance, Nicklas Nielsen is the first to be determined about its future. The 26-year-old Danish driver signed a contract extension this Thursday with the assurance of appearing among the crews behind the wheel of the 499P in the FIA WEC and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year.

Nicklas Nielsen was already one of the drivers of the all-new Hypercar this year and shared the wheel of the #50 with Antonio Fuoco et Miguel Molina. The trio took four podiums in total, at Sebring, Portimão, Monza and Bahrain, but also two pole positions thanks to Antonio Fuoco, brilliant in the opening at Sebring then at Le Mans.

The crew finished third in the drivers’ championship even though they had no success in June in Sarthe, where the No. 51 Ferrari offered a historic success to the Scuderia thanks to James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi et Alessandro Pier Guidi.

“I am very happy to have renewed my contract with Ferrari”rejoices Nicklas Nielsen. “I think we have had some great seasons together, particularly this year in Hypercar, and I look forward to continuing this adventure by continuing to develop the 499P before the 2024 season.”

In 2023, Nicklas Nielsen also raced in GT World Challenge Europe, again with Ferrari AF Corse, and won the Barcelona round teaming up with Alessio Rovera et Robert Shwartzman.

The latter is also seeking a place in the Hypercar program, which therefore only sees one confirmed man at this stage. Does the choice to only formalize the extension of Nicklas Nielsen herald changes? The equation could also depend on the commitment or not of a third 499P, private, from 2024.

“Nicklas is a young and fast driver, who grew up within the Ferrari family where, after a one-make victory [le Ferrari Challenge 2018]he won at least one title on the international scene every year until 2022, before finishing third in the FIA WEC championship.recalls Antonello Coletta, director of Ferrari’s Endurance program. “We are proud to extend his contract.”
