From day 2 to glory

Angelini says he entered the game at day 2 IPO Master on the edge of late registration with 23bb of stack. Then it went down to 7bbwhen a triple-up with a pair of jacks has changed the inertia of his tournament.

Shortly after, in fact, Nicola found a doubling in dynamic button vs big blind against a occasionaland then he coolerato a pair of kings with a pair of axes to become mega-chipleader.

Al final tableafter winning a coinflip against Federico Cirillo (AK>JJ with K on the river) and some small potNicola found himself again chipleader with 75bb of stack. 4 left a failed bluff did it DESCENDbut in the end he showed up at the head to head for the title with a 50bb stack against an opponent who had 15bb.

We will now pass the word directly to Angelini for the story of the decisive hand.

“A passive opponent”

The opponent was a guy I know, very nitty, nothing special at the table. In the final hand I was playing with 60bb against his 10-11bb. Pin 7Χ8Χ on the button and complete, he checked behind from the big blind.

Flop comes AΧ7Χ3Χ with two hearts, I think I always or almost always have the best hand because after he checked behind preflop I don’t put too many Ax in range. Sometimes maybe, since he was a passive opponent, he could have A-2 or A-4 that he wanted to check behind, but very rarely. Anyway he checks, I bet a blind, he raises to two and a half blinds, I call. As for hands that beat me, he could have some seven with a better kicker or some low-frequency aces as I said.

The showdown you don’t expect

Nicola continues the tale which has one of those endings by surprise:

Turn comes 5Χ, he underbets 1.5bb and I play for value again: I can always have the best hand given the draws he could push. The river comes 6Χ and he checks. When he checks I could be good, but not always because at that point I expect that if he has any flush draw combos he would bet to make me fold a lot of stuff.

At that point if he checks and I go to shove I never have a bluff. Knowing that he has the ace at a low frequency I go all-in to make some sevens fold. He snaps and shows 9♣6♣, basically he had a draw and the pair of sixes found on the river was enough for him to snap me, absurd!
