Plan

A common thread: criticism of the notion of urbanization of the countryside

A periodization from the 1950s to the 1990s

A historical perspective of the evolution of city/rural relationships

THE rcity-country relations. History of a political and scientific question, is a work by Nicole Mathieu who analyzes this question from the beginning of the 30 Glorieuses to the beginning of the 21st century. N. Mathieu, historian and geographer, was research director at the CNRS (thesis on Plovézet) and collaborator with SEGESA (directed by J.-C. Bontron). The work includes ten articles published between 1973 and 2012 (see summary, chapters 8, 2004 and 10, 2012) – including two published in Rural economy – and offers two unpublished texts in conclusion (texts downloadable for the most part from Cairn or Persée). The first part focuses on France, a laboratory for reflection on the city/countryside relationship, and the second expands it to the European level. We would have preferred a synthesis instead of a collection comprising repetitions, but the interest of this anthology is to allow us to follow the construction of the author’s thoughts.
