Nigerian Land Borders Reopen with Nigeria: Latest Updates and Implications

The Nigerien transitional authorities have announced the reopening, from Friday at midnight, of the land borders with Nigeria, an official source said.

The Nigerien Ministry of the Interior, in a radio message, informed the governors of the border regions of “ the reopening of our land border with the Federal Republic of Nigeria this Friday March 22, 2024 from midnight« .

Consequently, he requested to “ take all necessary measures to strengthen the control system at (entry) and exit at border posts“, report media.

The decision, according to observers, will allow the official resumption of trade along the 1,500 km of borders shared by the two countries and which had been closed since July 30.

Last week, Nigeria had already announced the reopening of its borders with Niger, following the request for the lifting of ECOWAS sanctions.
