After five years, Bilderbuch are back playing at the Kasematten, the atmosphere of which frontman Maurice Ernst has taken a liking to. After all, at the first of the three planned Graz concerts, he praised the stage as one of the most beautiful concert locations in Austria. Interesting because the band paid a visit to various cultural temples in the spring. In Salzburg they played in the Festspielhaus, in Linz in the Brucknerhaus. That doesn’t mean the band has become more saturated in any way. The new material from the moody rather relaxed album “Gelb ist das Feld” fits almost seamlessly into the concert. Maurice Ernst performs the textile-free Iggy Pop of Austria and the band, which has been expanded to include two guest musicians (Lukas König is once more on second drums), still plays in a league of its own: a dense, fat sound enveloped the casemates. There is no trace of an intermediate low or even a real crisis, which the band was attested to following the album was released. Songs like “Schwarzes Karma” work wonderfully live.
