Nikita Mazepin claims he is “not interested” in switching his focus from F1 to IndyCar.
23-year-old Nikita Mazepin, who was dismissed by the Haas F1 Team due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resulting western sanctions, claims to be “optimist” about the possibility of returning to F1.
“I’m confident we can come back in the future,” Nikita confirmed to the Russian daily Sport-Express.
“I maintain the same weight and feel well, so if such a challenge emerges, I can take advantage of it.”
Interestingly, he revealed that the Haas F1 Team has kicked both himself and his father’s company URALCHEM out of the team, but in reality it is not banned by F1.
“It’s worth noting that the FIA (International Automobile Federation) allows me under certain conditions,” Nikita Mazepin said.
“Sports should be united and athletes from different countries should be able to compete with the best athletes. I follow the principle that whenever I wear a helmet it doesn’t matter what my skin color is or whether I belong to a particular state. I’ve been taken away “
Nikita Mazepin also believes that once the Ukrainian conflict has subsided, some F1 teams may be interested in working with them.
“F1 is a private company and the team itself makes the decision,” said Nikita Mazepin.
“In Haas, 1.5 people-Guenther (Steiner) and Gene (Haas) -if you’re interested, go ahead with it.”
“Therefore, I haven’t associated my situation with F1. They haven’t excluded me from anything.”
Therefore, Nikita Mazepin does not rule out that one day he will enter the business side of F1.
“The top team is worth billions of dollars and I think one day I’ll be part of the industry as a businessman,” said Nikita Mazepin.
“But I’m not in a hurry to that.”
Nikita Mazepin also denied rumors that he might be considering returning to the IndyCar race.
“I’m not interested in IndyCar,” Nikita Mazepin insisted.
“Of course I can’t say what will happen tomorrow, but I’ve devoted my life to F1.”
“I got there, but just as appetite is said to be the same as eating, I have no doubt what I can do with a competitive car.”
