Nikon’s Z30 is a lightweight vlogging mirrorless camera

Nikon released 20.9MP earlier APS-C mirrorless new machine Z30, and called it the smallest and lightest Z-series camera to date. It is mainly aimed at the Vlogger group, so it is equipped with a flip-up screen, 4K30p recording capability and up to 125 minutes of recording time, but it is not equipped with an electronic viewing window.

The Z30 is Nikon’s third APS-C (DX) mirrorless camera, following the Z50 and From FC footsteps. Aside from being small, it’s pretty decent in design, and even has a fairly deep grip to ensure comfort when taking pictures. It’s just that there isn’t a lot of space between the lens and the grip thanks to its huge Z-mount lens mount. Other features include a built-in stereo microphone, a mic-in jack, a UHS-I SD card slot, and even a recording indicator on the front to let you know you’re recording.

Same as Sony’s Vlogger ZV-E10 In contrast, the Z30 uses the full width of the sensor when shooting at 4K30p, so the equivalent focal length will be wider than the ZV-E10 with a 1.23x crop. This is especially important for vlogging, as the wider field of view means you can take a selfie without having to stretch your hand that far. The Z30 can also shoot 1080/120p slow-motion videos, but does not support log profiles. In addition, the Z30 does not have an anti-shake body, and the fuselage itself only provides electronic anti-shake.

The Z30 uses a composite phase-detection autofocus, and has AI detection of faces, glasses, and animals. In the battery part it is slightly smaller, the CIPA figure is 330 photos. It’s been offered up to 125 minutes of video recording time, but that’s at 1080p resolution and plugged into a USB-C power source. If it is 4K, it is only about 35 minutes of recording time. When it comes to taking pictures, it supports up to 11fps (JPEG/RAW) with a mechanical shutter, and it can even take pictures during video recording.

The Z30 is priced at US$710 alone, US$850 with the Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 kit mirror, and US$1,200 with the Nikkor Z 50-250mm F4.5-6.3. In addition to the camera, Nikon also released a new full-frame Z-mount lens, the Z400mm f/4.5 VR S. Nikon claims it is the lightest in its class, weighing only 1.15kg, and offers drip resistance, dust resistance, and focal length shift compensation during video shooting, and is priced at US$3,250.
