Nils Eekhoff started Paris-Nice on Sunday with a fourth place in the stage results. During the tough final, he held his ground in a severely thinned peloton, but the Dutchman had a hard time, he says on the DSM-firmenich PostNL website.

“It was very tough in the final. I was quite at the limit on the last two climbs,” said Eekhoff, who was certainly not the only one. At the front, classification riders such as Remco Evenepoel and Egan Bernal chose to attack. In the end, however, we still got a sprint, albeit with a reduced group of about sixty people.

“It was chaotic in the group, but I made the best of it towards the finish. Fourth is a decent result, but I’m always hungry for more. As a team we will certainly aim for better results in the coming days.”

For Eekhoff it was his third top-five finish of 2024. He had previously been third in a stage of the AlUla Tour and fifth in Kuurne-Brussels Kuurne.
