News hardware Nintendo Gamecube: From dream to reality, the fake portable version comes to life!
Despite its commercial failure, the Gamecube left its mark on the minds of gamers in the early 2000s. Super Smash Bros. Melee or Luigi’s Mansion, the little cube has undeniably won the hearts of players.
If you’re in your early twenties or younger, you may have heard your parents, cousins, siblings, or their friends tell you about the Gamecube. Released after the Nintendo 64 and before the Wii, which was a tidal wave on its side, the console did not work, supplanted by the carton, still unequaled, of the PlayStation 2.
An old “fake” that has been making fans dream for almost 20 years
Soon after its decline, the Gamecube was the subject many rumors, in particular related to its transformation into a portable console. Images have circulated on the Internet, representing the console in an aspect close to that of the GameBoy Advance SP. For many years, this console resurfaced, giving hope to part of the public. Only here, Nintendo has, to our knowledge in any case, never worked on such a product. All images were just concept art, made by fans. In other words, the portable Gamecube does not exist. Or rather, did not exist!
The portable Gamecube finally exists!
The modder, tweaker and seller of PCB boards GingerOfOz“tired of it being fake”, decided to bring the rumor to life. So he made himself a portable Gamecube, cheating a little bit. In addition to the case, buttons and screen, 3D printedthe amateur builder miniaturized a Wii to succeed in his project. Since Nintendo’s console can read Gamecube mini-DVDs, it was an ideal candidate.
The machine runs smoothly The Legend of Zelda : The Wind Waker, Mario Kart : Double Dash !! or Super Smash Bros. Melee, making this 15-year-old dream come true. Unfortunately, it is obviously a unique pieceand there’s very little chance that Nintendo will let any person or company miniaturize its old console on a large scale anyway.
