The Kyoto firm announced the closure of the eShop on the two old consoles. Bad news for players, who will however have a few months ahead of them to make their last purchases on the online store.
The end of an era
They are certainly not the most beloved consoles by gamers, although that does not prevent some fans from continuing to enjoy them. But it will have to be done quickly, because in March 2023, Nintendo will end the eShop on both consoles.
“It will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop on the Wii U console or the Nintendo 3DS system. It will also no longer be possible to download free contentincluding demo versions”, explains Nintendo.
In addition, as this date approaches, some related functions will no longer be available, such as thees eShop Card, which will no longer be able to fund an account (the download codes will be available until the end of March 2023). Finally, the balance on your account will not be lost, but must be used on the Nintendo Switch eShop from March 2023.
Finally, the company specifies that “after March 2023 and for some timeit will still be possible to redownload games and downloadable content, receive software updates and use online gaming features on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS consoles.”
