Nissan Formula E Team continues preparation for 10th season in Valencia

Valencia, Spain – The Nissan Formula E Team has completed pre-season testing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, Spain, as it continues to prepare for the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Official drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Oliver Rowland, who returns to the team, got their first hands-on with the car, while simulator and development driver Luca Ghiotto and Alpine Academy member Victor Martins also got valuable track time.

Ghiotto and Martins laid the foundation for the week, recording several laps and assisting the team in successfully completing their respective programs.

Following a delay in proceedings due to an incident on the Tuesday after the first session, practice resumed on the Thursday afternoon with Rowland and Fenestraz driving in Nissan e-4ORCE cars numbers #22 and #23 respectively. Working on vehicle tuning and long-term programs, both were able to set encouraging lap times, with Rowland finishing the day seventh overall.

On Friday, to make up for lost time, teams and drivers from all teams had a long extra session, with British driver Rowland once again finishing in the top 10 best times. Meanwhile, French-Argentinian Fenestraz has completed 122 laps and made some progress in energy management as he prepares to begin his second year with the team.

Season 10 begins in Mexico City on January 13, 2024. The first Japan E-Prix is ​​scheduled for Tokyo on March 30, 2024.

Tommaso Volpe, general director and team leader: “It was a good week of testing, we tried to improve the car, work on its tuning and some other factors, so we are very happy with what we achieved. The week started well with Luca and Victor. It was great to have two drivers who know the team. They used their track time intelligently, adapting to get back into the car before completing the rest of their respective programs, showing solid pace and doing everything the team asked of them.”

“Oliver quickly showed why we brought him back. He immediately got into a rhythm and continued to adapt well to the team. He had a good feel for the car and it was as if he had never been away! He has worked very well on energy management, which will help him translate his natural pace into more results this season. Overall it was a good week for us, we feel strong and in a better position compared to last year. We are looking forward to getting to Mexico City. It’s a great place to start the year, so we aim to start the campaign positively.”

Oliver Rowland: “It was a good test, we spent both days in the top ten, so it was a good start. With the rigorous testing schedule, we tried configurations that weren’t Valencia-specific, but we got what we wanted. I felt comfortable with the team and I hope we can build on that before Mexico City. The car is strong, we found the rhythm and I’m optimistic for the first race of the season.”

Sacha Fenestraz: “The tests went well, it was great to be back on the track. I really missed driving the car, trying to do the perfect lap and that makes me look forward to Mexico City even more. Trying to learn as much as possible before the new season starts. It was good to be able to compare myself with Oli and the rest of the field, although Valencia is a very different track to the one we will face in Mexico City.”

Luca Ghiotto: “It was my third time in the Nissan e-4ORCE 04 and the most fun so far. It was great to be on the track with the official drivers to evaluate my performance against theirs. Our pace was positive, especially considering that it has been several months since my last participation. We tested various aspects of the car, completed our plan and did a lot of laps. The experience will also continue to help me in my role in the simulator, which will provide more information to make the real car more accurate in reality. I had a lot of fun in the car and I’m looking forward to implementing what I learned at the factory.”

Victor Martins: “Everything went well on Tuesday morning, with no errors or problems and plenty of time on the track. I got my rhythm back in the early stages as it had been a long time since I had driven the car, but once I got back to grips we had a solid session. We completed our program and accomplished everything we wanted to do, and I’m so glad I helped the team and provided helpful feedback. It was also good for me to be on the track with the drivers. It gave me a great opportunity to compare myself to them. I’m really happy with the pace we had and I enjoyed my time!”
