No danger for Fidesz and DK – 2024-04-10 08:55:48

Sunday question

Péter Magyar is gaining his supporters from voters who are disillusioned with the opposition parties. This is what the government-affiliated Nézőpont Institute claims, based on the results of its most recent survey.

According to the survey from the end of February, the government parties Fidesz-KDNP maintained their leading position at the beginning of April with a projection of 47%, the pollsters write. If Péter Magyar were to found a party (which he announced at the large demonstration on Saturday), it would immediately be on par with the left-wing alliance DK-MSZP-Párbeszéd (both 13%) in terms of voter support. Behind them at Nézőpont are the satirical party MKKP (11%) and the right-wing Mi Hazánk (6%). Meanwhile, the liberal Momentum (4%) has to fear for its mandates in the European Parliament because of the 5% hurdle.

The institute draws clear conclusions from the Magyar appearance: “While Péter Magyar wants to position himself in the center, he has not been able to win over any supporters from the government camp.” In contrast to surveys by other institutes, Magyar is not said to be popular with insecure and inactive voters; His appearance alone caused more or less major losses to the parties of the left camp. In February, the DK alone achieved the 13% that the three-party alliance of the Left now records. Regardless of the first shifts, the Nézőpont Institute is most likely to believe that Fidesz, DK and Mi Hazánk will have a stable electorate; Péter Magyar’s movement is the most dangerous for Momentum and MKKP.
