Off to a perfect start, the Belgians unfortunately lost some time during the second handover. A disbursement of a few seconds ultimately prohibitive in this kind of race where every detail counts. 5th time in series, the Belgian relay therefore loses a small place but the main thing is obviously elsewhere for the Belgians, unable to place a team in the final of a 4×100 relay since 1978.
“We are really in our place” analyse Robin Vanderbemden, at the microphone of David Bertrand. “All the teams finished the race so we finished 6th overall. We can be super proud tonight. The objective was to qualify for the World Relay. We try to get into the system and from there we will try to go as far as possible. Here we are 6th, we always want more but it’s magnificent. The difference with the 4×400 relay? On the 4×400, there are plenty of experienced people who supervise me. Here, it’s me who supervises the young people, it’s a new role, I love it.”
In full swing after a generally successful week, the Falcons confirm that we will undoubtedly have to count on them in the future. And that, behind the stainless Tornados, the Belgian sprint has resources.
