Noam Sinseau, Hahaha Maker: “Celebrate yourself! »

The most exciting stand-up of this winter 2024, it’s him. At 25, this Martinican is breaking the New Seine house with his slightly voguing and very explicit show, Makoumè Superstar. Deconstructed interview.

You played your first show, Makoumè Superstar, at the Nouvelle Seine after making your debut there with the Comedy Love troupe. What is “Makoumè”?
Noam Sinseau: It means “faggot” in Creole. And “Superstar” is what I am! One is an insult, the other promotes trust. In the show I talk about acceptance and well-being, it’s an ode to resilience. I tell my story there, but I also want to talk about the strength that we can draw from the most complicated challenges, in the face of a sometimes unfair system. We must not apologize for who we are.

So if I called you Makoumè, what would you say to me?
Quite !

Why the New Seine?
It’s symbolic for me, I’d rather fill this room ten times than have a Zenith.

You left Martinique at the age of 18 to come to Paris. What made you leave?*
Officially, it was to continue my business studies. Unofficially, I didn’t want to do it, but this course allowed me to obtain a scholarship and go without fees. In Martinique, it was very complicated in relation to my homosexuality. I needed to turn a page in my life.

You say you are a “Hahaha Maker”.
I was writing funny threads on Twitter, and it was a comedian, Marine Baousson, who spotted me. So I participated in his comedy set, the “One Mad Show”. I then joined Tahnee and Mahaut Drama, friends from stand-up, in the feminist and queer collective “Comédie Love”. And I started stand-up officially in September 2021.

Voguing plays an important role in your life and you also integrate it into your show.
Once in Paris, I accepted myself as homosexual, but I had repressed my Martinique side, as I had suffered so much there. With voguing, I discovered a black community, LGBTQIA+, which emancipates and celebrates itself. I opened my eyes, I am not ashamed of being gay and from Martinique. I look for something poetic in connecting jokes, which is why voguing really helps me.

And your music of the moment to sail?
My music of the moment is obviously “Cozy” by Beyoncé, but the remix by DJ MikeQ, we absolutely have to listen to it, it’s great!
