The Plenary of the Constitutional Convention approved in particular the article that establishes that “Chile is a regional, plurinational and intercultural State”. In this way, the proposals will go to the draft of the new Constitution.

The text had 112 votes in favor, 2 abstentions and 34 against, the latter coming mostly from the conventional members of Vamos por Chile.

The vote occurred around 3:00 p.m. this Friday and is part of the review of the report from the State Form Commission. Specifically, the rule states that “Chile is a regional, multinational and intercultural State made up of autonomous territorial entities, within a framework of equity and solidarity among all of them, preserving the unity and integrity of the State.”

In addition, it was also approved by 150 votes in favor and 1 against a paragraph that states that “the State will promote cooperation, harmonious integration and adequate and fair development among the various territorial entities.”

Convention redefines Chile as a Regional, Plurinational and Intercultural State

On the other hand, the hemicycle rejected two amendments proposed by the conventional Felipe Mena (Vamos por Chile) that sought to replace the expression “regional” with “decentralized” or with “politically, administratively and fiscally decentralized.”

The first graft had 41 votes in favor, 111 against and 0 abstentions; and the second with 40 votes in favor, 112 against and 0 abstentions respectively.

Now the extract will be reviewed in the Harmonization Commission of the constituent body together with the rest of the articles that have already been approved in particular, Among those that appear are the 10 from the Justice Systems Commission that received the green light this Thursday.
