In addition to this grant, the National Rail Agency has awarded seven additional grants to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) totaling $3.5 million. These potential rail connections include Winston-Salem to Raleigh, Charlotte to Atlanta, Charlotte to Kings Mountain, Charlotte to Washington, DC, Fayetteville to Raleigh, Wilmington to Raleigh and Salisbury to Asheville.
The $1.09 billion grant received from NCDOT is the largest in the department’s history and underscores the importance of this rail project to North Carolina’s transportation infrastructure.
