North Kivu: A new ADF attack leaves 6 dead in Beni

Beni, March 18, 2024 – Six (6) people including an element of the Congolese National Police (PNC) were killed by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, in the Mundubiena cell, in the Sayo district, in the city of Beni, in North Kivu.

Administrative sources from the municipality report that the incident took place during the night from Sunday to Monday, March 18, 2024.

In addition to the deaths, attackers also burned down the houses of peaceful citizens in this rural part of the Mulekera commune, sharing boundaries with the territory of Beni.

“We must talk about the bodies collected at the scene, there are six (6) including a police officer who was killed by the ADF, in the Sayo district, in the Mundubiena cell. In their flight, the ADF also set fire to some civilian houses. confided Mayor Ngongo Mayanga to depeche.cd

However, he reassured that the security and defense forces, once alerted, quickly descended on the ground to inquire about the situation. It is thanks to them, he says, that the worst was avoided.

“The security situation is worrying in our entity since we have reported the presence of the ADF, who have taken up residence in part of our commune. It is from there that they organize to harm our population. And immediately informed military operations began and the ADF were being hunted down. For the moment, work is being done so that these ADF are pushed away from our population,” added the police officer.

For the moment, local sources speak of a total stampede plaguing the Sayo district. Residents who fear for their safety are emptying the neighborhood for the city center, which is supposed to be secure. Last week, this neighborhood was the scene of clashes between Wazalendo and FARDC, we learned.
