North Korea could launch a radioactive tsunami with its new weapon

According to Pyongyang, the system can “destroy enemy ship groups” without detection.

North Korea is a new one “underwater strategic nuclear weapon” tested, stating that the platform is capable “radioactive tsunami” to bring about. Pyongyang claimed it was forced to confirm “war deterrent” in the heat of military exercises carried out by Washington and Seoul.

The test series was carried out by the North Korean military between Tuesday and Thursday this week and was overseen by Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un – reported the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The purpose of the trials was to confirm the “Tsunami” named new “secret weapon’s deadly strike capability”.

“The underwater strategic nuclear weapon’s mission is to stealthily dive into the operational area… and destroy enemy fleets and major operational ports by generating a super-powerful radioactive tsunami through underwater explosions” – the news agency wrote, adding: “This nuclear unmanned underwater attack vessel can be deployed by towing to any shore or port or surface ship”.

With development set to begin in 2021, the system has reportedly undergone around 50 rounds of behind-the-scenes testing over the past two years, and was created to “check the military and technological superiority of the imperialist aggressor army” KCNA added, referring to the United States.

Pyongyang says it faces a dangerous security situation due to US-led, near-continuous military exercises with South Korea, which the DPRK has repeatedly described as invasion rehearsals. He added that because of Washington’s hostile stance “it has become absolutely necessary for us to prioritize the quantitative strengthening of nuclear power”, emphasized is “stronger war deterrence” necessity.

North Korea has carried out a series of weapons tests in recent months, including the launch of several intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) as a demonstration to the United States and its regional allies. While U.S. officials have condemned such tests as provocative and a threat to the stability of the Asia-Pacific region, the DPRK insists it has the right to develop its military capabilities and says its nuclear arsenal is for defensive purposes only.

But despite ominous warnings about DPRK weapons, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Wednesday that “no sign of it”, that “An actual strike on North Korea would be imminent”suggesting that Pyongyang does not pose a direct threat to the United States or its partners.
