According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, two short-range ballistic missiles were fired from Muncheon, Gangwon Province, North Korea for 10 minutes from 1:48 am to 58 am today.

The altitude was about 90 km, the flight distance was about 350 km, and the speed was detected as Mach 5.

Japan’s Ministry of Defense said it is investigating the possibility of a submarine-launched ballistic missile or SLBM, but in terms of distance and altitude, experts analyze that it is similar to the KN-25, a super-large multiple rocket launcher recently launched by North Korea.

This is the first time this year that North Korea, which has been firing ballistic missiles from time to time recently, has launched it during the night time like this time.

South Korea and the United States fired two Atacms into the East Sea in response to North Korea’s intermediate-range ballistic missile provocation early on the morning of the 5th.

In addition, Muncheon, where the launch took place this time, is where North Korea launched a short-range cruise missile in April 2020, and it seems that North Korea has shown off its customized launch capabilities by selecting various locations and times.

The South Korean government held a standing committee of the National Security Council this morning presided over by Kim Seong-han, head of the National Security Office, and strongly condemned North Korea’s missile launch as a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region.

North Korea has launched seven ballistic missiles between the 25th of last month and for a fortnight, and this launch is the 11th since the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol government.
