The Belgian-Dutch port company North Sea Port announced on Monday the upcoming installation of pipelines to the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge (Port of Antwerp-Bruges). This will create a network capable of transporting gas between the three main ports of Belgium and abroad.

Pipelines are now becoming increasingly important in the energy transition, particularly for the capture and storage of CO2 as well as for the transport of hydrogen. In this context, North Sea Port announced that it is becoming a minority shareholder in the Pipelink company.

Pipelink is a subsidiary of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and installs national and international pipelines. The company already has 750 kilometers of pipes in Belgium.

“By connecting Belgian port platforms, we can avoid mutual competition and possible duplication of costly infrastructure,” rejoices the chairman of the board of directors of Pipelink, Jacques Vandermeiren.

Thanks to this partnership, the three largest Belgian ports, Antwerp, Ghent and Zeebrugge, are now connected. The Dutch ports of Vlissingen and Terneuzen are also located in this network, within the North Sea Port.

The gas transporter Fluxys, Pipelink, the Walloon investment company for the environmental transition Socofe and the federal participation and investment company (SFPIM) also announced last September that they were joining forces to transport CO2 across borders. Belgians.
