Northern Jutland waiter talent in great triumph: – It has required blood, sweat and tears

Jacob Urth – who can be found on a daily basis at Aalborg’s top restaurant Alimentum – can now adorn himself with the title of one of the Nordics’ most talented apprentice waiters.

Together with his partner Kasper Andersen, who is associated with the Vejlsøhus Hotel & Conference Center at Silkeborg, Jacob Urth reached the top at the Nordic Championships in Helsinki at the weekend.

– I’m very honored. But it has also required toil, drag, blood, sweat and tears from Kasper and me. But fortunately it has borne fruit, says Jacob Urth.

This weekend’s competition in Finland follows in the wake of the pair winning the best in Denmark on March 18 at the Foodexpo in Messecenter Herning.

Both before the DM – and to that extent also followingwards – the two apprentice waiters have been through an intensive training course. All their free time is spent training at their school, College360 in Silkeborg.

The couple has worked to improve their skills in a number of different disciplines. There has been a theoretical test, setting the table for an unknown menu, bar, wine identification, flambéing, tranching cheese and serving a five-course menu. The menu – with drinks – was also created jointly with the Danish chef students from Kold College, who also participated in Helsinki. The cooking students achieved a great second place.

That Jacob Urth and Kasper Andersen made it all the way to the top at the Nordic championships for apprentice waiters and chefs was revealed at a gala dinner on Saturday evening in Helsinki. Two days of competitions had passed before.

– In many ways it was a completely surreal experience to go through. You only dared to dream regarding this result, says a happy Jacob Urth.
