The tragedy was narrowly avoided in the fire which occurred on Monday around 7 p.m. in Noville. Blocked on the balcony of her apartment on fire, a tenant jumped into the void while her one-and-a-half-year-old grandson was in the kitchen. Although injured, she tried to reenter the apartment in order to save the child. But the Chinese sixty-year-old failed to open the front door. Quickly arriving on the spot, the gendarmes were also unable to enter the apartment because of the smoke,

It was in this context of the imminent death of a child that a police officer climbed a gutter to access the balcony, where a tenant had preceded him who was trying to rescue the baby. “The gendarme broke the glass of the French window and entered the smoky apartment to extract the child,” the Vaud police communicated on Tuesday.

The woman and her grandson were taken to the Riviera Chablais hospital in Rennaz. Their days are not in danger. Fifteen firefighters intervened with three vehicles. They managed to bring the fire under control around 8 p.m. An investigation has been opened.
