Nscale has secured a massive AI computing contract valued at 45 milliarder dollar to supply capacity at its United States Monarch facility. While the company’s financial backers face surging valuations and potential public listings, Bloomberg reports that the confidential customer behind the enormous transaction is Anthropic.
The artificial intelligence infrastructure market has reached a staggering new financial echelon. Aker-backed Nscale has signed a massive agreement to deliver dedicated AI computing capability. The venture anchors its operations in the United States at the Monarch facility, driving an immense volume of capital into specialized server capacity designed to train and run complex machine learning models.
Unmasking the Customer Behind the 45 milliarder dollar Deal
Official corporate disclosures from major stakeholder Aker originally kept the identity of the buyer strictly confidential. When pressed by market reporters regarding who contracted the massive computing allotment, corporate representatives maintained a tight lid on specifics. Despite the initial corporate reticence, financial reporting identified the mystery buyer according to Bloomberg as Anthropic, the company behind the AI service Claude. This agreement translates to approximately 421 milliarder norske kroner at today’s rate, or around 420 milliarder kroner, establishing a commercial partnership between an infrastructure provider and a frontier lab.
Market Valuation and the Aker Portfolio Impact
The transaction acts as a profound catalyst for Kjell Inge Røkkes Aker, which holds a substantial equity stake in the infrastructure firm. Nscale represents the second-largest position in the Aker portfolio, sitting directly behind Aker BP. In an announcement on Wednesday, Nscale announced the contract, and Danske Bank analyst Victor Aasland believes Aker will get a medium to high stock reaction on the exchange on Thursday, noting: We believe Nscale will get a higher listing value than rumored, and this supports that view.
There has recently been a lot of talk about whether Nscale will be listed on the stock exchange. Rumors currently suggest Nscale will be valued at 25 milliarder dollar upon an initial public offering. Aker-sjef Øyvind Eriksen stated at the previous quarterly presentation that a potential listing is up to Nscale’s board: If Nscale’s board chooses that, Aker will support the decision, said Eriksen, who incidentally sits on Nscale’s board himself.
Domestic Expansion and Domestic Infrastructure Investment
While the monumental compute contract centers on the American Monarch site, the enterprise maintains aggressive domestic development initiatives. Nscale has started the construction of two data centers in Norway – one in Glomsfjord and one in Narvik. The investment for the data center in Narvik is around 100 milliarder kroner.
Leadership describes the Narvik development as the largest mainland investment in Norway ever, according to Nscale Scandinavia head Stian Jenssen, who told E24 about the milestone.
